I began my career in professional theater, where I got the nickname "Roz". I worked there for nearly a decade, doing stage managing, writing, directing, and acting, before deciding to study literature. I completed my B.A. in Engl. Lit. at University of Calgary in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and my M.A at University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta, before deciding to live overseas for a while.
Like so many others who go overseas for work, I initially taught ESL at several universities and schools in Korea and Taiwan, but eventually took a job writing and editing for a large-scale, high-stakes English language in Korea, Test of English Proficiency, Seoul National University (TEPS). This work was so interesting to me that I wanted to pursue further research in this area. Fortunately, there was a professor at Seoul National University, Yongwon Lee, who was a specialist in language tests. Through working with professor Lee, I was able to complete a second M.A. at SNU.
I am excited to be pursuing a PhD at ISU, which has a great program for testing and the use of technology in applied linguistics. Another area that I first became interested in while studying in Korea is corpus linguistics, which I have also been able to pursue at ISU. Please feel free to browse through my web pages for more information about my projects and research interests.
